John Colan is a native Clevelander and the first attorney in his large, extended family. His work ethic and interest in the law comes from his immigrant grandparents who arrived here from Ireland in the early 1900s. As Irish immigrants they often were treated like second-class citizens. Since becoming an attorney in 2006 John has passionately advocated for those like his grandparents and many others who need assistance fighting against large corporations in a sometimes complex legal system.
John joined the Robenalt Law Firm as an associate attorney in 2016 following a successful, eight-year career protecting victims’ rights in the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office. He prosecuted more than 1,000 crimes with a conviction rate of 99.8 percent. He conducted more than 75 jury trials including some of Cuyahoga County’s most serious crimes such as rape, abuse and murder.
He also has an interest in paying it forward and has served as a teacher of Ethics and Legal Issues at a large technical college from 2014 to 2016. John’s first brush with the legal field was with a consumer protection law firm, where he litigated tirelessly from 2006 to 2008 on behalf of clients defrauded by large corporations.
He received his law degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University in May 2005. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from John Carroll University where he graduated in 2001. He graduated from Saint Ignatius High School in 1997.
John lives in the West Side of Cleveland with his wife and son.
